OUR DELEGATION IN GERMANY

For a week a delegation from Puerto de la Cruz travels to the city of Düsseldorf made up of the King, the Queen and the bridesmaids of the carnival with the fantasies with which they obtained these awards, a folk group, support staff and representatives of the City Council, to participate in certain events in different cities of the North Rhine-Westphalia region.

During this stay, a tight promotional program is developed with visits to certain places and constant appearances in the daily press, radio and television.

For these morning appearances, the King, the Queen and their Ladies of Honor, as well as the folk group, are dressed in typical costumes. At night, they participate in the most important festivals of the Rhine Carnival, which in their playbills include photos and texts referring to the performance of this delegation at said festival during the previous year.

Another of the promotional formulas used consists of intervening in several of the bullrings that are held in the region (Neuss, Duisburg and Mönchengladbach).

The one in the city of Düsseldorf, for example, which is celebrated on Rose Monday, is usually followed by a million and a half people in situ (the number varies depending on the weather), and is broadcast nationally on television, in addition through the international channel.

In it, the delegation is presented with a very colorful float that bears the name of Puerto de la Cruz, adorned with thousands of natural strelitzias and the Queen with her Bridesmaids dressed in the costumes that they exhibited at the Puerto de la Cruz carnival the previous year.

Finished this week of work in the city of Düsseldorf, the promotion continues in Tenerife.

THE GERMAN DELEGATION IN PUERTO DE LA CRUZ

A delegation from this city travels to Puerto de la Cruz, led by the Prince and the Venetia of this German Carnival with their fanfare and various political personalities, the Honor Guard of the Mayor of Düsseldorf, the Princes of the Carnival of the cities of Duisburg , Neuss, Monchengladbach, Erkelenz, Bonn with their respective courts, as well as delegations from Vechta, Eschborn, Scharmede, etc.

The evolution of these delegations is followed by German media that send the information daily.

During their stay in Puerto de la Cruz they visit the Cabildo de Tenerife, the Loro Parque, etc., and participate in the coso-apotheosis of the carnival with decorated floats and cars from which the different pairs of princes greet the public.

In 2016, the friendship agreement between the cities of Düsseldorf and Puerto de la Cruz was reaffirmed with the signing of an agreement that took place on February 9 at the town hall of this German city, signed in this case by Mr. Thomas Geisel (Düsseldorf) and D. Lope Afonso (Puerto de la Cruz).

This exchange has become one of the hallmarks of the International Carnival of Puerto de la Cruz, to whom the internationality of its name is due.
